Ten years on from its ground-breaking report into reducing harm caused by alcohol and drugs, Scotland’s Futures Forum will return to the subject with an event to consider drug use in Scotland.
Following a request from a cross-party group of MSPs and former Presiding Officers, the Futures Forum will host an initial event to consider the landscape for drug use in Scotland on Friday 4 May 2018 in Glasgow.
The seminar will assess the current situation, how things have changed since the original report and potential approaches to tackling the problems it provokes. It will also consider potential next steps for the Futures Forum to take.
The MSPs signing the letter were Labour’s Neil Findlay and Pauline McNeill, former SNP Health Secretary Alex Neil, Conservative Oliver Mundell, Alex Cole-Hamilton of the Liberal Democrats and Green MSPs Alison Johnstone and John Finnie. The group are also backed by former Presiding Officers David Steel and George Reid.
The event will be chaired by Futures Forum directors Adam Tomkins MSP and Clare Haughey MSP, with input from Dave Liddell from the Scottish Drugs Forum, Elinor Dickie from NHS Health Scotland, and individuals with direct personal experience of the issues from West Lothian Alcohol and Drugs Service.
